Final Propaganda Poster

I choose to do a propaganda poster on World War II. The poster is about people talking, giving away or letting important information slip from their mouths and then the enemies will hear and bad things will occur. I choose lips and the blowing wind was suppose to be the talking then lead the ship to shipwreck against the rocks. I think I spent too much time and should have kept it more simple. I had so many ideas that I was hard to use just one with out it seeming like it was too simple and I didn't spend a lot of time on it. I have never made a poster before so it was a bit challenging. I first did research figuring out which propaganda issue would be best to choose from. After a long time of research, I found a poster that would work. I then started to sketch different ways I could approach this poster. I had too many ideas and came up with this idea before it was too late. I used Photoshop to create the poster and went to the Millrace lab 1 to print my 24' x 36' poster.

The assignment is to pick a propaganda subject from 1900-1950, from any country, and remake a modern looking poster about it. You can appropriate styles and themes, but it should look modern. As well, the size should be 24x36.

I think I am heading towards the issue women's rights and joining the service. "Gee i wish i was a man..." (1918) "We can do it" "Women every thursday" "For your country's sake today..." (1940's) Going with one of those posters and using the style but making it modern. I wanted to come up with my own catchy phrase like they did on each poster. I like the idea of a navy girl.

In our group the next project is to make a poster the topic is propaganda. But in our group we have to figure out something that we all agree on and then make a poster going against that idea. At the end we were going to have the class discuss what they see. Depending on how the class discusses each of our 5 posters then that is who the winner will be. Here are some of the ideas I came up with:

The table is now really heavy with all of the weight I put inside of it. Its sturdy doesn't wobble around. I just have to make sure that not a lot of weight it put in the middle because there is only the bottom 1/8 thick holding all this weight on top of it. It could fall through. It turned out really nice and I am happy with my results.

I routed 3/4 of inch to take out the center. Since the center of it was all cardboard i had to build up so that the tile would sit evenly across. I added extra wood and glued it in the middle. Then I put down the first layer that would set the tiles on. I used 1/8 inch spacers to space the tiles evenly. Then I mixed up the gout and used a sponge to wipe away the extra.

Day 3: Table

When I was done with the first layer I took of the tape that was "protecting the 3/4' inset. When I pulled off the tape the finish came off with it. so i scraped around that edge to make it took more older to match the tiles.

I mixed the grout into a bucket, then smeared all the grout in between the tiles. I used a sponge to wipe away the extra grout that was on the tiles. The sponge was so i would wipe evenly across the tiles so that I wouldn't push the tiles down or uneven the surface. When I was done putting the grout on I put the legs on. It took a day for the grout to dry fully. And I am done.

Day two, I had to mix the first layer of slip to lay in the middle of the table so that it would rise up and the tiles would be flesh with the top of the table.

I used this rake sort of thing to smooth the first layer around.
I started laying down the tile. Each tile had to be 1/8' apart slightly. I was a little off by measurements just because the table and the titles were slightly off. I used at first these little 1/8' crosses to put in between each tile as I laid them down.

This is putting the second to last piece on. After I was done doing that I had to wait until it was dry which took till the next day.

Day one, Dad found some tile that was laying around from the shower they redid. I placed the left over pieces on my table to see if I had enough. There was, so my dad help me come up with a way on the router to make a straight edge that inset the table an 3/4'.
Then after I routed out all the way around the table, I ripped off the middle chunk.
With the extra long pieces I had to break into tiny squares.

The the order of the pictures centered above, when i took off the center of the table there was coiled cardboard inside which made it hollow followed by the next picture. In order for the tiles to be place I needed to glue down board to rise the inside. I glue three layers of wood down. one of which was the top of the table. End of day one.

This is the video that I put together from the clips that I took during the two weeks. I need more time and if i was going to go do it over I would have taped the webcam down in the same spot to prevent it from being jumpy. I wish I had picked a different part of the room to do this project, or multiple shots which would require more then one webcam because the other would be taped in the same spot. I could have mark it with tape. I don't think that this act of picking things up is going to change because of this project. He will continue doing what he wants when he wants to do it. Then again the living room doesn't ever look as disgusting as it has in the past. I have to look at it from the upside. The fact that I was noticing it every day, changed his behavior in the environment he lives in.

I put the video up on facebook and he said "don't tag me in this shit" so he untagged the animation of him. I was going to post the pictures up on facebook as well in a album... He will not change his habit, seeing the animation, the picture, and or the mini movie. He doesn't care one way or another unless I cared. Which its hard to say because I knew what I was getting into when I moved in anyway. Is there a line that it becomes way too much to handle? Is there really a solution to this procrastinate or carelessness? Is it the nagging the only way that will make him help a little bit more. "Do you think I am going to change how I feel because of the pile of shit every where? No absolutely not"

I did finish my book with the pictures inside of it. Now i am having trouble with loading FCP on my external drive I will have to finish the mini movie tomorrow on my sisters computer. Then i will be done with my project!! YAY!!

Drugged

I had to get a graft done on my mouth, and I have been drugged up for a day and a half. I haven't done much because i can't drive any where. I get queasy, can't eat only soft foods, and just feel like crap. Any who, i will bring in what i can tomorrow. I need to continue finishing the last bit of the flash, i can't finish the mini movie, because the procrastination is procrastinating, and its not getting done. I don't know what i am saying, but the fact that my plan isn't going very well as planned. The Thoughtless Acts project, i haven't been able to find any... i feel like i need to go out in search for things that pop out, other wise i don't realize a lot around me.

I have been documenting the mess around the apt. Some of the pictures correspond with the flash animation. Lately there hasn't been as much mess because he has been good about picking up his shit. Even though I said something about it, it still sits where it has been for a couple more days after. I am almost done with my animation. One thing i don't know how to finish it... should it just accumulate shit all over the floor plan and then end in a black frame. Should it have some kind of music in the back ground or is it fine without? Any ideas???

Book Binding

I made two books one for the Thoughtless Acts and the other is for the pictures I have been taking for my project, of the accumulated mess around the apartment. I will use double sided tape to insert the pictures in the book. I used the sewing method to bind each signature together. I used elmers to secure the binding put it under a heavy book. It was fun and easy!!

i'm still documenting other things that have happened but its hard when i'm not around. Here is part of it i will have more when more days pass. When i play in the blog its not as smooth as it is when i play it on my desk top. Pardon the choppiness of it.

Toubleshooting goals

Last night I couldn't load my adobe programs on my computer since my hard drive crashed with them on it. I'm at my sister's using the program on her computer to start my flash animation of the week I have so far.

I finished both of my book bindings for the "thoughtless acts" project. which i am having trouble finding picture for. I need to continue looking for pictures for that.

I will continue webcaming scott and see if there is any mess. He has been real good and picking his shit up so i don't know how that is going to effect my project.

Predicament

I am having trouble making a video of the observing the problem. The bf has figured out what i am doing. I could hide the webcam in anyway so he wouldn't see it. Since he knows I think he is trying a little harder to put shit away. Shirts and glasses are left for a day and then put in the sink or the clothes hamper (which isn't what usually happens). I am going to continue trying to video what i can. Should i make him then pick up one or two items the next week? Or should i continue with watching his habit of procrastination?

I am still going to follow up on the flash animation. I am going to make a floor plan and then have items floating around the room, where they are put and then maybe disappears if they are gone from that spot. I have been taking pictures of the actual accumulated mess around the apartment. I could possibly put the pictures in a book that i made and bounded myself. I would have three pieces of my project to show in different forms.

Spying

I have decided i am going to borrow John Parks web cam and set it up in the living room or somewhere that gets a lot of attention.

I am going to "observe the problem" by taking pics ever 5 to 10 minutes OR record live if we are in the apt together. Hide the cam so that my boyfriend doesn't know about it. I should record him for a few days and let the mess accumulate.

Then for a week tell him to pick up a couple things a day and put them away changing his habits a bit.

I would like to draw a floor plan and maybe make a small animation with flash of him walking around in the time being i don't have the web cam. I will track him and then if he drops something or leaves something anywhere i would draw it or record it in writing and animate it later.

I used gouache for the first layer of paint
I cut out text and pictures

glued the text and pictures on

Then used mod podge for the clear coat layer

Printed my picture and its done! YAY!

Procrastination

My problem is procrastination.

I made a list of the things i procrastinate on. Laundry, hw, watering my plants, i do the dishes normally... exercise, grocery shopping, reading...etc

In the group discussion today i was brought up an idea to document in some way the procrastination of the person i am living with. Which are completely effecting me and my lifestyle. Now i don't do the dishes after i use them. In what way, or how can i use video to create a way to document the solution, or a way of life. I would like it to be funny, and not so serious.

Maybe go about why it is you procrastinate, or what makes you do it?
